Tuesday, October 10, 2017 MIP UMY conducted Public Lecture “Election Update” with theme: Challenges and Strategic Issues of the 2019 Election. The speaker at this event was Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi, MA as KPU-RI commissioner and moderated by Bambang Eka Cahya Widodo, S.IP., M.Si as a lecturer of MIP UMY. The event was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Science. Titin Purwaningsih, S.IP., M.Sc. The event was attended by KPU DIY, Regional Election Commission of DIY, electoral supervisory body of DIY, electoral supervisory committee of DIY, Academicians ,and students. In this public lecture the speakers presented several challenges in the 2019 election, one of challenges is the implementation of Law No. 7 of 2017 as one of the legal basis for the election between DPR, DPD and DPRD elections as well as Presidential and Vice Presidential Election. In addition, it was stated that the KPU has a very limited time in drafting the PKPU as part of the elaboration of Law No. 7 of 2017. The 2019 election also has some implications both technical, political as well as the strengthening of presidential system. At the end of this public lecture, Mr. Tanthowi gave a recommendation related to the design of concurrency to be separated between national elections and local elections.
